We have submitted the final design of TRMNL for agency testing to ensure we meet the required standards. Full certification testing is underway, and the certification numbers will be received prior to printing shipping boxes. We will keep our backers informed prior to shipping.

I (Ryan Kulp) started TRMNL in one of the most stressful weeks of my life. I was involved in too many projects, and none of them were going well. [Watch the video recap].

The daily bombardment of work emergencies, tragic world news, and an ever-growing email inbox didn’t help. I needed to focus. So I started thinking… how could I stay on top of information, without letting it control me? The idea of a physical device to literally “put distractions in their place” was born, and I began building a TRMNL prototype immediately. A month later I recruited a team of engineers and designers and we rebuilt everything from scratch: custom PCB, all new electrical components, performant firmware with OTA updates, dozens of plugins. Next we onboarded marketers, made our commercial, and began piecing together this campaign. We’re finally ready to go live, and our product is ready to ship to many countries around the world.

TRMNL is a 9 person technical team spanning from California to Texas, Georgia to Germany, and Ukraine to India. As remote worker veterans we’ve seen first-hand how crippling the onslaught of “async” notifications can be to our stress levels and ability to focus. And since most of us have built projects together in the past, we were eager to make something that could help solve this challenge for both ourselves and others. Within a month of making things official we had working prototypes, firmware, hardware, and high fidelity 3D printed cases. Just a couple months later our commercial was ready and we began pre-marketing. Now we’re sharing our device with the world, to help more people focus at work.
