Stockholm-based Agteria Biotech has raised 6 million in a Seed funding round to advance its methane-reducing solutions for cattle. The investment will support the company’s efforts to secure regulatory approval and accelerate the development of its innovative technology aimed at cutting livestock emissions.
The funding round was co-led by Industrifonden and AgriZeroNZ, with continued backing from existing investors Norrsken Launcher and Mudcake. This investment highlights growing interest in tackling methane emissions, which account for a significant share of global greenhouse gases, particularly from agriculture.
Agteria Biotech was founded in 2023 by Martin Blomberg, Dr Tommi Remonen, and Maia Lidbeck with a mission to reduce one percent of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. At the heart of its innovation is the patent-pending AB-01 Molecule, designed to significantly lower methane emissions from cattle in a scalable and cost-effective way. The company claims its solution offers the highest methane reduction per euro, making it an attractive option for beef and dairy industries as well as animal feed producers.
Methane is a critical contributor to climate change, with a warming potential 28 times greater than carbon dioxide. It is responsible for approximately 30 percent of the current increase in global temperatures, and emissions from cattle alone account for about 5 percent of total greenhouse gases worldwide. Addressing this issue is now a major priority for climate action.
Agteria’s product is formulated for use across all cattle and production systems. The compound integrates seamlessly into standard feeding practices without disrupting the normal function of the animals’ rumen. The company has already demonstrated strong results in multiple in-vivo trials, drawing interest from key players in the livestock and animal feed industries.
With its latest funding, Agteria will focus on obtaining regulatory approval for its methane-reducing products. The next phase includes conducting essential safety studies to ensure the product’s viability for animals, consumers, and the environment.
According to Agteria CEO Martin Blomberg, reducing methane is one of the most effective short-term actions available to combat climate change. He emphasized the importance of creating a solution that is not only effective but also scalable, affordable, and safe. The company’s latest funding round, backed by investors with deep-tech experience and market expertise, marks a significant step toward making this solution widely available.
Industrifonden Investment Manager Mala Valroy highlighted Agteria’s rapid progress, crediting the company’s small but highly ambitious team for driving innovation. She expressed confidence in the potential of Agteria’s science-backed approach to significantly reduce agricultural greenhouse gas emissions.
Wayne McNee, Chief Executive at AgriZeroNZ, also praised the startup’s vision, noting that his firm actively seeks innovative ventures to help farmers lower their emissions. He emphasized that Agteria’s solution is well-suited for grazing systems in New Zealand and other agricultural markets worldwide.
As global temperatures continue to rise and methane levels reach unprecedented highs, Agteria Biotech’s work represents an urgent and practical response to one of agriculture’s biggest environmental challenges. With the backing of key investors and growing interest from industry leaders, the company is well-positioned to make a meaningful impact in the fight against climate change.
