We throw away a lot of food, more than we can afford. For those with kitchen gardens, you could be trying to compost leftover foods. This is usually a manual job and might take longer than one would like to use. For others, the leftover foods or any items you might compost usually end up in a landfill.

This is usually a lot of waste, considering that any compostable or biodegradable foods and items are a great source of nutrients for the soil. As such, composting whatever foods and other wastes you have is great for your kitchen garden or lawn. Plus, it helps you reduce your carbon footprint, saving Mother Nature.

Pela has introduced a new gadget that helps you compost wastes at the comfort of your home effortlessly and faster. Lomi by Pela is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, with deliveries estimated to start from December 2021.

Pela has introduced a new gadget, that helps you to compost wastes at the comfort of your home effortlessly and at a faster rate. Lomi by Pela is currently crowdfunding on Indeigogo, with deliveries estimated to start from December 2021.

Whats Foods Can You Compost With Lomi

The gadget allows you to compost a wide variety of foods and other compostable products using either Eco mode or Express mode, including:

  • Foods
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Animal products
  • Yard waste

Apart from these, you can also compost any items that Lomi has marked safe or commodities markets as compostable or biodegradable. With these, you can use the bioplastic mode, which is explicitly made for composting certified compostable plastics.

These include

  • Bioplastics
  • Compostable cutlery
  • Compostable packaging
  • Compostable coffee cups

How does it work? Lomi composts items by speeding up the process of breaking down organic waste into smaller fragments. This is actually the same process that organisms like worms use to break down waste, turning it into compost. The only difference is that Lomi fastens the process and reduces the smelly and messy backyard.

The gadget is easy to use. All you have to do is feed whatever waste you need to compost, click the power button and let Lomi do its job. The result of this process is compost, which looks like soil. You can add this compost to your plants, from the kitchen garden to the lawn and house plants.

It also uses a digital and intuitive system for tracking the process. You can see what stage your compost ingredients are at with the Drying, Grinding, and Cooling labels from the display.

Other benefits of Lomi are:

  • It is dishwasher safe for easy cleaning
  • It is small and compact, meaning it will take little storage space on your kitchen counter or storage cabinet.
  • It uses filters with activated charcoal, which traps and eliminates odors from the composting process.
  • The charcoal in the filters is replaceable.
  • It is quiet, ensuring you do not disturb other people in the house when composting.
  • It is energy-efficient, so your power bill will not shoot up.

With just a few days left, there are still Lomi gadgets available for backing. The Lomi Indiegogo Special is $379.00, a 24% discount off the retail price of $499.00, while the Lomi Early International price is $399.00, a 20% discount.

Lomi is not the first of its kind. A few models in the market are already available, like the Vitamix FoodCycle that costs $399.95 on Amazon. However, there are more affordable models going for less than $100.00, like Oxo and Dullrot.
