Bringing Our Childhood Back to Life

Hi, my name’s Ollie and I’m the director of Husband In-Laws.

Husband In-Laws is my baby and the baby of every other person who has worked with me to make this project come to life. I grew up with movies like Step Brothers and Superbad, and have only heard time and time again as I’ve gotten older that people miss that style of comedy, and I miss that style of comedy. So, with the overwhelming support of everyone on my cast and crew, we made the short film with no money and just a passion for the revival of the genre.

What We Need & What You Get

Now that we’ve had so much support from the community regarding the short film, we want nothing more than to do the short film justice by making it a feature. 

About a third of the funds will be used to pay out the cast and crew a small compensation for their efforts in making this dream into a reality. We couldn’t afford to pay anyone the first time around but we really want to make sure that everyone gets compensated this time. The rest of the funds will be split relatively equally between the cost of locations and things like props and wardrobe. We’re asking for $60,000 to make this all happen!

This is a community effort and as such, I really want the community to be involved! If we secure funding, We’re going to need lots of extras and we’d love for our backers to be prominently displayed extras! This also means opportunity to meet cast and crew and see for yourself how this movie is being made with your money. There’s also a carnival scene so… free carnival rides anyone?

If the film isn’t able to be fully funded by the end of the campaign, then it’s time for us to reassess. If we’re close, we may just have to make small adjustments to things like the prop and wardrobe budget. If we’ve missed the target by more than that, then we will likely re-write the script to alter the writing of more expensive scenes or we may need to make cuts to the pay of cast and crew. (Don’t worry, they’re resilient. They’ll be fine. Probably.)

Our Impact

I’m not just recycling tired movies from the mid-2000s, I’m bringing back to life the genre with a modern lens. The fresh jokes and humor still does the comedy genre justice without being repetitive of what everyone has already seen. This movie manages to breathe life back into the nostogia of those mid-2000s comedies. I’m just here to make people feel good and I’m creating what I love to do that.
