Fred, a 95-year-old dreamer, clings to his aspirations of Hollywood fame.

Story

Why This Project

This film is for anyone who has ever chased a dream and feared the moment they might have to let go.

Fred’s story is proof that dreams don’t have an expiration date. He’s been in this business a long time, always on the sidelines, waiting for his moment.  Now, at 95, he’s not just starring in a film about a man fighting for his dreams—he’s living it. His journey is raw, relatable, and urgent, and we’re making this movie because we believe in Fred.  Audiences will be drawn in, not just to see how it ends for him, but for themselves.

In the neon-lit heart of modern Los Angeles, where dreams are woven into the very fabric of the city, a unique symphony plays out on Hollywood Boulevard. Amidst the glitz and glamour, where stars are born and faded memories linger, there exists an unassuming yet extraordinary soul — Fred. An actor, musician, and comedian with fingers that once danced effortlessly on piano keys, Fred, now at the ripe age of 95, finds himself on a quest to get ahead in his career in showbiz.

Sebastian Wilder’s pursuit of dreams in the context of Hollywood, featuring themes of love, art, and the passage of time in La La Land. Alvin Straight’s emphasis towards the beauty of life’s simple moments in The Straight Story. Bob Harris’ quest for finding connection and purpose in unfamiliar surroundings in Lost In Translation.

They Don’t Make Guys Like Me Anymore is a celebration of timeless themes, and a poignant exploration of art, resilience, and the unyielding spirit that refuses to be silenced .

Life Imitates Art

Fred’s belief that he is perpetually 37 years old reflects a form of self-imposed artifice. A personal narrative he has created, blurring the lines between reality and the roles he imagines for himself. His adventures in Hollywood, from walking into coffee shops to seeking life-changing encounters, mirror the tropes of an old film. Fred’s life has become a work of art, mirroring the cinematic themes he has cherished. The nostalgia of music symbolizes the timeless quality of both Fred’s journey and the artistic expressions that have shaped his perception of life.

In this film the theme of “life imitates art” is not just a narrative device; it becomes a lens through which Fred navigates his reality, blurring the distinctions between his dreams and the tangible experiences that unfold. The story captures the transformative and reciprocal relationship between life and artistic expression.

Composing the Score

The original score for Fred’s film is a unique and evocative element that adds depth to his narrative. In a touching scene, Fred is brought into a music studio where old films are projected onto the wall. These films, a tapestry of classic cinema, serve as the backdrop for Fred’s improvisation on the piano.

As the images flicker across the screen, Fred begins to play, drawing inspiration from the black and white scenes before him. His music, a spontaneous and heartfelt composition, captures the essence of his dreams and memories. Each note resonates with his experiences, blending melancholy and hope into a beautiful score.

The process of recording and mastering the score becomes a dreamlike sequence, with the camera capturing Fred’s emotional connection to the music and the films. This moment allows Fred to realize his dream of composing a score for a film, a dream he had long cherished but never thought possible.
