Reclaiming Africa’s true history—told by us, for us. When we know our past, we empower our future.
Africa Told by Us is a groundbreaking documentary series reclaiming Africa’s rich, untold histories, stories and culture. This series challenges outdated portrayals, offering an authentic perspective on the continent’s legacy, told by those who live it.
In the first installment, Madou Elijah Diarrassouba and Reshena Burch embark on a powerful journey to Mali.
• Madou, born to a Malian father and an American mother, seeks to reconnect with his African roots after years of feeling disconnected due to Western stereotypes.
• Reshena, a Black American with no direct familial ties to Africa, joins to deepen her understanding of the continent’s history and cultural significance.
Together, they explore Africa’s true legacy—not one defined by struggle, but by resilience, creativity, and strength.

For too long, Africa’s history has been told through a colonial lens, reducing its narrative to poverty and conflict. Africa Told by Us shifts the focus—celebrating the continent’s brilliance, rich traditions, and global influence. This project is about reclaiming our past to empower future generations.
