The Idea 

One of our product managers, Nevaeh, is a self-confessed Apple fanatic. She’s got an iPhone and an Apple Watch, is an all-the-time AirPods wearer, uses a MacBook to work or watch movies, and an iPad to take notes in meetings. To charge them, she used to use an ESR 3-in-1 magnetic wireless charger and had two separate, high-wattage wall chargers. It made her desk messy and she didn’t have enough power outlets for all of her plugs. She went online to search for a solution that combined the convenience of magnetic wireless charging with fast wired charging in one compact package. To her surprise, such a solution didn’t exist and she realized the need to develop a complete fast-charging solution for all Apple devices.

The Challenges 

The biggest challenge the design team faced was ensuring the charging station could output enough power to fast charge 6 devices without taking up too much space or getting too hot. That’s why we decided to use Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductors to power the charging station. GaN charging produces less heat and faster speeds while taking up less space, ensuring maximum power in the most efficient way possible.

The Final Touches 

We’ve been constantly tweaking the internal components to optimize performance and ensure the fastest, most efficient charging experience. The feedback from members of the ESR team that have been able to get hands on with the charging station has been overwhelmingly positive and we’ve changed a few small design features based on their comments. These final adjustments have made us confident that backers will love the charging station and how it transforms the way they charge their everyday devices.
