Zazen training cushion type IoT device
In today’s society, environment and education prevent people from keeping “ARINOMAMA” – which they have naturally and originally.
As a consequence, environmental and educational circumstances are some of the causes of mental diseases, such as: sleep disorders and clinical depression.

There are, in fact, many people around us suffering from depression and other mental illnesses due to their work and environmental conditions.
One of the reasons for it is that your original body state does not fit in with the hardships you experience at work, school or home. You should recognize and follow the things you have to do, of course, but sometimes you mistake these activities as being your entire life.
People who live in such environment are in a situation in which it is difficult to reconstruct their minds. And Zen is the way to solve this problem.
By practicing Zen, you can condition your brain and release yourself from various environmental stresses.
Due to the fact that Zen is difficult to incorporate into your daily life without Zen leaders to guide you, Qzen + The Why are the solution.
They make it easier to practice Zen everyday, without fail.
Zen is a 3-axis approach: the alignment, the breathing and the result. thewhu captures the breathing and the state of physical condition by analyzing the changes in your body’s center of gravity.
Studies of posture and mental health have shown that slouching posture increases negative thinking. Vise versa, the results have shown that maintaining an upright posture cures depression, reveals one from anxiety symptoms and provides positive energy.
In addition, our research shows that most renowned Zen monks have an accurate respiratory rhythm and a lower respiratory rate per unit time compared to those of ordinary people.
Zen monks can be said to have achieved harmony from their physical skills and breathing abilities acquired through many years of Zen training.
thewhu provides you with zazen proficiency and advice by using sensing and analyzing technology to guide you to Zen-life more easily.
thewhu works with the Qzen application and is an IoT device which records the balance and respiratory rate of the user.
It is possible to teach users who haven’t ever tried sitting zazen. In the future, we are also planning to add a function to foster a community of thewhu users.
The effect of practicing zazen is not immediate, however, thewhu provides you with a variety of enjoyment and meaning so that you can continue with the Zazen way.
This application is coming soon, however, thewhu’s release depends on the result of this Kickstarter.
We have already created multiple prototypes and have performed various tests.
We will continue our planning of Zen support applications and hardware.
Please support our beginning.
The functions of the prototype
thewhu comprises of two pieces, a pedestal which contains 4 load sensors and an internal battery, and a soft cushion attached above for sitting.
The prototype comes in two color schemes, grey and blue.
From the data recorded by the load sensors that are inside the pedestal piece, the center of gravity, breathing pattern and fluctuations can be measured.
Because the prototype holds an internal battery, thewhu can be used in places without external power.
When using together with the bundled QzenApp, the training menu of the application and the data taken from the sensors produce relevant information and precise feedback to the user that is beneficial to practicing correct Zazen (meditation).
By using this method of Zazen training, the user is able to master skill in a short amount of time.
The feedback from the application is grounded on actual institutional research and as a service we will continually provide updates from new studies when they are published.
How to use:
1. Press the button located on the pedestal to turn on device.
2. Connect the smartphone to the device via bluetooth.
3. Start the QzenAPP, and select the menu to start your training
