Nordberg Skagerrak is an uncomplicated and robust automatic watch for every occasion.

Story

100% FUNDED ON KICKSTARTER!

Nordberg Watches’ vision is to help people open their eyes to mechanical watches and to lower the barriers to enter the watch community. We do this by creating affordable and uncomplicated entry watches that will ignite a watch interest for the broader market.

After successfully selling out our first collection, Nordberg Kattegatt, we asked our customers what they were looking for in the perfect watch. The answer we received was: A slightly smaller all-around watch with a simple design and an automatic movement, on a stainless steel bracelet at a superior price. Consequently, with the close involvement of our active followers, the Nordberg Skagerrak was born, drawing inspiration from the surroundings of the Swedish west coast.

We have understood that many of you, just like us, are looking for a watch that goes back to basics – without parts from the moon, meteors or sunken boats. With this in mind, we designed the Nordberg Skagerrak with focus on the Swedish heritage of simplicity and robustness. The watch comes in two editions: Day and Night, limited to 250 pieces.

Day: Inspired by the sunrise of icy winter mornings on the island Tjörn, just outside Gothenburg, we designed the Nordberg Skagerrak: Day Edition. The white, matte color of the dial symbolizes the biting cold synonymous with the Nordics. The dark blue second hand reflects the Skagerrak ocean, which is constantly in motion and therefore never completely freezes to ice. The beautiful contrast between the two colors is a sight to behold and is stunningly replicated in the Nordberg Skagerrak: Day Edition.

Night: Swedish summer nights are short – the sun barely sets behind the horizon! This results in a truly breathtaking color combination observed when the sun rests for a couple of hours before rising to signal the start of a gorgeous new summer day. Those first yellow rays of the morning sun, reflected by the sharp yellow second hand, piercing the dark summer night sky in Strömstad are what inspired us when we created the Nordberg Skagerrak: Night Edition. The yellow second hand is a legacy from our first collection, Nordberg Kattegatt.

The two second hands combined have the same color scheme as the Swedish yellow-blue flag. The indices are designed with the bare cliffs along the west coast in mind. The collection is limited to 250 watches with two years of international warranty, where you as a customer get to choose your own unique number between 1-250. Maybe your lucky number is still available?

Skagerrak is the part of the Atlantic ocean uniting Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The importance of the sea lies in its historical features, such as enabling exploration, adventure travels and relations between the Scandinavian countries and the rest of the world – from the Viking Age to modern time.

Above is the complete watch kit that will be delivered to you along with the Nordberg Skagerrak. Apart from the watch itself, you will find the following in your watch package:

  • A Nordberg Watches box
  • A watch certificate, stating your limited edition number and the reference number of the collection
  • A bracelet pin remover
  • An instructions manual

Furthermore, you will get to choose your very own NATO strap of the five above. Instructions on how to change between your stainless steel bracelet and the NATO strap using the bracelet pin remover will be provided in the instructions manual.

The Nordberg Watches team consists of four Swedish watch enthusiasts: Jakob, Henrik, Johan and Charlie, with a close connection to the Swedish west coast. The name Nordberg Watches originates from the surname Nordberg which is Johan’s mother’s family name. In Swedish, Nord means north and Berg means mountain, which suits our focus on nature as well as the simplicity and unique environment of the Nordics.

The idea behind Nordberg Watches was born when we realized that there are a lot of people who have a growing interest in watches but are a bit lost in their research, just as we once found ourselves. It is difficult to navigate the watch market, and the barriers to enter the watch community are high. With Nordberg Watches, we make automatic watches available to people who, like ourselves, do not have a huge watch budget. Over the years, many have asked us for help finding the right watch. We are passionate about helping people explore and develop their interest in watches and the mechanics behind them. Therefore, we create affordable and uncomplicated entry watches that will help ignite an interest in automatic movements for the broader market. We welcome all watch enthusiasts, whether you are a first timer or an experienced watch collector, to participate in our community.

We aim to deliver the Nordberg Skagerraks in November 2021. As you can read in Risks and Challenges below, this is our current estimation based on all the information we have today. If anything unexpected happens, delays may occur. The only thing we can assure you is that we will ALWAYS update you with both good and bad news before, during and after the campaign.

Additionally, the campaign goal of 450 000 SEK is what we have decided to be the lower limit for us to be able to proceed to production, and not the cost of the 250 watches.

Our first watch collection, Nordberg Kattegatt, was limited to 50 pieces. It is a diver watch, measuring 42mm in diameter, inspired by the Kattegatt ocean surrounding Gothenburg, our home town. The Nordberg Kattegatt is powered by a Japanese Miyota 8215 movement.

Nordberg Kattegatt sold out in only one week from its launch in February 2020, outside of Kickstarter. The feedback from our followers during this phase was overwhelming, and we became hooked on to the watch development process: from the first idea to the final shipment to our customers. This experience led us to move on to our next project, Nordberg Skagerrak, the day after the shipment of the last Nordberg Kattegatt.

We love watches and the process of making them. Doing this as a group of friends, together with the watch community in an iterative process is both incredibly fun and rewarding. Inspired by the Swedish heritage and nature, we want to continue creating and designing simple and robust watches with automatic movements, together with you.

A cornerstone of Nordberg Watches’ strategy is our communication with the watch community and our desire to constantly receive constructive feedback. Below, we share our personal contact information, where you can get in touch with us if you have any questions or if you simply want to discuss watches with us. We also encourage you to ask your questions in the comments section here on Kickstarter, so that more people can read your questions and our answers.

We are four watch enthusiasts (nerds) and would love to talk with more of you like-minded people out there. We will continuously update you on how the project is progressing, in both ups and downs, and will ensure that the campaign page’s FAQ is up-to-date. Take care of yourselves, and do not hesitate to contact us at the slightest thought!
