The future home of KennedyPrints! & The Printing Plant, the Printery of the Americas

Story

Hey, I’m back!

This time I am raising funds to restore an old garage which will house the printing equipment that my 2012 Indiegogo campaign helped me move to Detroit, Michigan.

This old garage is called THE PILE OF BRICKS. It will be a space — a Printery — where people who have an interest in Letterpress Printing can print, learn to print, and teach each other how to print.

Last month the landlord raised the rent where I currently print and house my presses by 60%. This raise hurts. And there are rumors they want to move all the tenants out of the space. AND SOON.

Your generous support will help me complete the restoration of the Pile of Bricks ahead of schedule so I can move out of my present space before I’m kicked out.

We need to raise $71,000 USD to complete the restoration of the PILE OF BRICKS.

Each year I have spent $20,000 USD on restoring The Pile of Bricks while also paying rent on a separate place to print. I have funded this restoration with the money left from my previous Indiegogo campaign and my shallow pockets. It is amazing what saving can do!

Rather than saving funds for three more years, I am asking you to pledge to this campaign. This time the funds will go to complete the restoration of the building. This includes:

WAIT! That adds up to $85,000 USD. Where is the rest of the money coming from?
MY SAVINGS. In for a dime, in for a dollar. TOGETHER, we can do this.

Your annual subscription of at least $120 USD to my Tiny Posters will help me FUND THE RESTORATION OF THE PILE OF BRICKS.  You won’t get 12 tiny posters but 13, a Baker’s Dozen. Yes, 13 posters for at least $120 USD. I wanted to bring this project to completion without your help but the rent increase will cost too much. And I don’t want to give any more money to the landlord.

I need your support. This time the perks are a Baker’s Dozen of Tiny Posters. The different subscriptions are:

  • Random Quotes
  • Social Justice Quotes
  • Nature/Environment Quotes
  • Voting Quotes
  • Women’s Quotes
  • Give-a-Friend-a-Card

PLEASE NOTE:
Photos show samples of previous work. ALL 2020 SUBSCRIPTIONS will be ALL NEW WORK.

WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?

In 2012, my Indiegogo patrons pledged funds for me to move more than 5 tons of printing equipment to establish The Detroit Printing Plant.

Eight years and an additional $121,000 later, we have a 3200 sq ft building and funding for the Plant has been used for architect fees, city permits, a land survey, a new insulated roof for the building and major brick work.

Also in the past eight years, the Detroit Printing Plant has evolved into the PRINTING PLANT, the Printery of the Americas, a 501c3 letterpress educational institution.

When restoration on the building is completed, it will house my imprint, KennedyPrints!, and the Printing Plant.  The Printing Plant will be an international community printshop that will allow people to explore poster printing via letterpress printing & wood type.

At the Printing Plant, WE PLAY HARD. WE PRINT HARDER.

RISKS & CHALLENGES

Restoration of The Pile of Bricks will happen with or without your subscription. But your subscription will make it happen faster, and cost less.

I have successfully fulfilled all the perks from my previous campaign, and I do not foresee any unmanageable challenges nor delays.
