Thunderbolt 4 cables can be up to 2 meters long and still handle 40Gbps bandwidth and DisplayPort capability. Previously, passive Thunderbolt 3 cables had to be less than 1 meter to handle full bandwidth and support DisplayPort.

PCIe 32Gb/s

And where Thunderbolt 3 systems have to support only a 16Gbps data rate via PCIe, Thunderbolt 4 will double that requirement to 32Gbps. That added bandwidth will certainly be put to good use by anyone who regularly transfers gigantic files of high-resolution video and other large data sets from storage drives to their laptop for editing or gaming.

This also means that the cable can be used to connect to many docks, eGPUs, PCIe expansion, external SSDs, RAID storage, etc.

Thunderbolt 4 ports provide external access to the high-speed PCIe bus, allowing components that use PCIe to be connected without having to install them internally.

External SSD

Run games from an external NVMe SSD, such as the Samsung Portable SSD X5. Because NVMe storage uses PCIe instead of the older SATA connectors used by SATA SSDs and traditional HDDs, read/write speeds are fast enough for gaming from an external storage device. This allows games to be transferred to an external drive, so they can be played on any system that supports Thunderbolt / USB 4.

Design Journey

Before starting the design journey, one thing we know is that Thunderbolt 4 is powerful and wide compatibility. Most Thunderbolt 4 cables on the market look weak, and it seems that they can only be used carefully on your desk. It doesn’t make sense.

So, If we want it to be a universal cable for everything and everyone, we need to make some changes.

We evaluated and tested different designs, combined with our previous experience, realized that we should use special designs and add the finest materials to strengthen the cable to get a better user experience.

1, What is the difference between Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, and USB4?

Thunderbolt 4 now ensures that you can wake a computer with the shake of a mouse or the tap of a keyboard on Thunderbolt 4 docks. This wasn’t always the case with Thunderbolt 3.

Thunderbolt 4 is also a more data-safe technology, as it requires Intel VT-d-based direct memory access (DMA) protection, also known as DMA remapping. 

We think the biggest difference between them is Thunderbolt 4 cables can be up to 2 meters long and still handle 40Gbps bandwidth and DisplayPort capability, which makes it practical.

2, Can I Use a Thunderbolt 4 Cable to Connect to a Thunderbolt or USB-C Device?

Yes, this cable is compatible with any USB-C port for data transfer, charging, or video.
