Concept

Once you find the sweet spot for the mic, you can quickly return to the exact same position & sound

Story

Meet the Inventor

My name is Darren Atkinson, an inventor and musician from Toronto, Canada.

As any object can, a dynamic microphone can traverse through six degrees of movement, on the X, Y and Z axes, as well as spin on those axes through rotation called pitch, roll and yaw – which is why it is impossible to restore the original position precisely… exactly… that is… until now.

It took me over 15 years, plus the help of a talented team of engineers & patent specialists to develop this idea into a product. This revolutionary  3-dimensional laser guided dynamic microphone I named 5@7  was the result. It uses an irregular triple laser array to show three distinct dots that pinpoint the position of the microphone through 6 degrees of movement (X, Y, Z, pitch, roll, yaw) for perfect repositioning of your microphone setup again and again. Here it is:

This is your opportunity to be one of the first to own this workhorse directional dynamic microphone, a game changing invention that is more than just a microphone.

This low-impedance cardioid dynamic microphone is equal in sound to other popular workhorse microphones of choice. Its sturdy construction and ability to work well with instruments that produce high sound pressure levels, such as percussion instruments and electric guitars will meet that standard expected by musicians.

You will be able to recreate your sound and thus, your artistic brand for life when you pair this microphone with your close mic’d speaker cabinet, drum or other high S.P.L. sound sources. It will streamline your studio equipment setup, save time and energy and reproduce your sound for life exactly.

What We Need & What You Will Get

We already developed several prototypes and are ready to start production soon. Your help is needed to fund:

  • Additional cast & tooling costs
  • Installing a safe Li-ion battery
  • Sourcing Class 2 lasers

Production

I carefully considered many factories, because I have some past experience getting amplifiers made in China working for an English guitar amplifier manufacturer. It was a short list, as I only picked factories that build the highest quality products and eventually settled on one, whose owner worked his way up from the factory floor to own his own factory. He started in the manufacturing business making diaphragms & transducers, so he understands that the source sound is critical and he only settles for excellence. I’m proud to say I’m working with someone who cares about sound. These are some of the photos I took during my factory visit in January 2024.

Note: even if we don’t reach our campaign goal, limited quantities of this microphone will still be produced.

The Impact

This is a revolutionary invention, one of many I have up my sleeve, that will disrupt the industry and change what a microphone is to the sound recordist and artist.

  • Help me to distribute it throughout the world so every artist can recreate their perfect sound for life when they find it.

Risks & Challenges

The product is currently in the prototype stage. There have been many challenges on the way to bring it to market, but I believe the project is in good thrifty hands:

  • I have a track record of successfully running businesses that manufacture audio equipment (Hiwatt Amplifiers UK)
  • I also ran an electronics recycling business in the past, so I know how to extract value from every dollar spent
  • In the event we cannot continue our path to completion in China  (i.e. another virus outbreak), we have a contingency plan to produce the microphone in Vietnam.

Other Ways You Can Help

Even if you are not getting the perk (this amazing microphone), you can still help by:

  • Spread the word by sharing it on your social networks ( https://igg.me/at/5at7-mic )
  • Help the inventor (Darren) by making a small contribution and get a Gratitude Certificate

Thanks you very much for all your contributions and stay tuned for updates
