Hey there!

I’m Cait, the writer and director of A Yarn, an upcoming feature film shooting in Georgia in September 2023.

Our film tells the weird, queer story of twins Jesse (Cordie Hirsch) and Kurt (Peter Walsh), listless postgrads living in Savannah, Georgia whose stagnant lives are unwound when a young documentarian (Jaz Solana) comes to town looking for personal but impossible to find video tapes.

What We Need

Did you know that the indiest of indie features typically have micro budgets of $1 million (on the lowest end of the spectrum)? The amount of time, energy, and people power it takes to undertake a full length film is enormous. Think of the credits at the end of a film- the list of necessary pieces is long… and expensive. 

Not us! Fortunately, we are supported by a group of hugely talented artists and filmmakers who believe in this project so much, that they are willing to work for a fraction of what they deserve to make this dream a reality.

On top of the cost of the cast and crew, you have to budget for all the other obvious costs like film equipment, travel and lodging, and costumes, props and permits. And then the not so obvious costs like preproduction travel, police presence if you want to film on a city block, or having a COVID supervisor on set to make sure everyone is safe, just to name a few. Things add up very quickly!

Our largest expense will be filming on location in Savannah, Georgia. Savannah has a dreamy otherworldliness that is essential to our story, plus SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) which is what lead our characters to Georgia (and who we hope to partner with in real life to add skilled young crew members to our team for cheap). Wherever possible we will be shooting not-on-location in studio to keep costs low, but for a large chunk of the scenes, filming in Georgia is a necessity. A beautiful, costly necessity.
