Help me record and release a brand new album of original fiddle tunes!

Story

Darling Friends, Fans, and Supporters,

I am a musician, activist, and parent. You may know me from my previous albums which explored the traditional music of New England, or my original songs inspired by foster and adoptive families. You may know me from playing at your local folk club, hosting me at your house after a show, from school drop off, or maybe from riding around Brattleboro doing errands on my bicycle. I am so lucky to have benefited from the support and friendship of so many people over the years, so no matter how we know each other I want to start by saying thank you! I absolutely love being a musician, and I am grateful for the continued opportunity to be part of the creative economy.

My newest full-length solo album will be a collection of original fiddle tunes and two traditional songs that grounded me, helped me stretch my roots, and nurtured my creativity during the pandemic. The music has been written, and I’m getting ready to record it this winter with a fabulous band of badass lady musicians. I am incredibly excited about the music, and I want to invite you to be part of it. With your help, I hope to raise $60,000 to cover the cost of hiring the recording studio, engineer, musicians, graphic designer, radio and print media publicist, and get it pressed and duplicated.  Any additional funds raised would help further the reach of this music by allowing me to update my website, make new music videos and promotional tools, and even hire the band for an album release tour. 10% of all funds raised will go directly to the SUSU Community Farm, an Afro Indigenous stewarded farm and land based healing center in Southern Vermont that elevates Vermont’s land and food-ways through their community programing and BIPOC community supported agriculture.

Your contribution will help support a small independent female (me!) run business, contribute to the creative economy of other amazing artists and musicians, AND spread great music. The seeds of these tunes were sown when all of my live shows were canceled and I was suddenly home for the longest period of my adult life. As I helped my child manage virtual school, expanded my garden, and read books about racial and social justice, music became an essential processing and healing tool for all that I was experiencing. The last few years have been hard in many ways, but they have also been fruitful and pivotal for many, myself included. We know that rhythm and sound can be incredibly healing, and I am ready to share that gift with you. No contribution is too small, I appreciate every single dollar. Here is a breakdown of the recording budget:

    • Studio musicians $13,500
    • Studio engineer $2,500
    • Recording studio $2,500
    • Mixing engineer $2,500
    • Accommodations $1,200
    • Mastering engineer $850
    • Photography $800
    • Graphic design $2,000
    • Merchandise printing $1,500
    • Duplication $7,000
    • Web site update $1,500
    • Royalties $182
    • Copyright $55
    • Print media and radio publicity campaign $8,000
    • Music video $10,000
    • Donation to SUSU Community Farm $6,000
    • TOTAL EXPENSES $60,087

I have had a lot of fun thinking up a variety of perks for every type of contribution. I hope you’ll enjoy perusing the options, which range from signed copies of the new CD, to fiddle lessons, house concerts, and more. There is even an option for folks who would like me to create new original music for a cause they care about, or to honor an important person in their life. If you contribute ANYTHING no matter how big or small, you’ll receive album updates and sneak peeks of the music before anyone else!  If you can’t contribute at this time, please consider posting about this project on social media, or sharing it with your friends and family.  Every little bit helps, so thank you!
