NASA successfully launched Artemis 1 on November 16, 2022, from Launch Complex 39B (LC-39B) at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA’s Artemis 1 mission marked the agency’s return to lunar exploration five decades after the Apollo program, signaling a new era of spaceflight. By 2025, we may see astronauts walking on the lunar surface once again, thanks to advancements in technology, which will allow for more detailed exploration and inspire future generations of space explorers.

Rotating Luminous Moon

The M1’s seconds movement features an innovative 3D moon that rotates in a luminous glory, serving as a seconds counter that’s in constant rotation when fully charged. The Swiss Superluminova coating and special printing technology bring the centerpiece to life, creating a truly groundbreaking design.

We invested a significant amount of time and effort into perfecting the design of the 3D rotating moon, which involved addressing various challenges such as weight, timekeeping, material selection, color calibration, and shock resistance. The most critical aspect of the process was the assembly of the moon, as it required our skilled technicians to use their extensive experience and focus to complete the intricate assembly process.

You can delight in observing the moon spin and twirl in the center of the watch dial every second.

To achieve the cratered effect on the moon’s surface, we utilized embossing techniques. However, the curved edges of the case back presented a significant challenge in the stamping process. After numerous trials and adjustments, we successfully overcame this obstacle, resulting in a concave case back that fits comfortably around the wrist.

The US space agency has set its sights on 2024 for a return trip to the moon with the goal of establishing an Artemis Base Camp (ABC), which would allow humans to reside on the lunar surface. The Shackleton Crater, situated at the moon’s South Pole, would provide a habitat for up to four astronauts to live on the moon for at least a week.

The M1’s case design, drawing inspiration from space stations, features 316L stainless steel with a fine sandblasted finish. The case shape is specifically crafted to house an extremely domed sapphire crystal, giving it a futuristic appearance reminiscent of a space station.

The buckle’s design is inspired by the lunar space station- Gateway, with a unique look that showcases a strong sense of architectural style. The CNC cutting process used to create the buckle adds to its distinctive appearance.

There are two versions of premium leather available for our M1 watch – one made from vegetable-tanned leather and the other crafted from crazy horse leather. Both straps are soft and feature a distinctive leather texture.  The watch comes with quick-release spring bars for easy strap changes. By default, every watch will be shipped with one strap in a pre-selected color. If you’d like to customize your watch with additional straps in different colors, you can do so using our add-on function during the pledging campaign.

 

Why did the Full Moon/M1 appear?

In our previous campaigns, we have successfully launched a series of space-themed watches, including Mars Mission, Moon Walker 1, and Moon Walker 2. The Full Moon is the first OVD watch to feature a spherical moon at the center of the dial, a design challenge that we have finally overcome through innovative engineering, design improvements, and determination. This achievement represents the realization of my vision.

The watch boasts a 43mm case diameter and a 48.3mm lug-to-lug length, which perfectly balances the dial space with the moon display in the center. For example, on a wrist with a circumference of 6.25 inches (the designer’s wrist size), the watch fits snugly and comfortably.

 

The entire case is sandblasted as a polishing method.  The main purpose is to present a more restrained matte effect and make the surface design more prominent.

The Full Moon derives inspiration from the intricate design of the Artemis SLS rocket, with its diverse range of components, from the Sapphire crystal dome to the screws that secure the case back, showcasing a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail akin to the rocket’s design.

 

As a local micro-watch brand in Japan, we bypass the traditional distribution channels by launching our watch campaigns directly on Kickstarter. This approach allows us to offer our backers a 50% discount on market retail prices and deliver the watches much faster. Additionally, all our campaigns are one-time productions, so our watches are limited editions and not easily found in the retail market.
