Story

LET’S BRING BACK
THE MAGIC GARDEN!

#bringbackthemagicgarden
Remember that feeling you had as a child, watching Carole and Paula sitting on their swings, welcoming you into their “magical garden of make-believe?”  Well, you can help bring that magic back for a new generation by supporting THE NEW MAGIC GARDEN — a delightful, animated reimagining of the television classic.

WHERE THE MAGIC BEGAN

“This is the garden of make-believe, a magical garden of make-believe.”

For a generation of children, one of the most beloved television shows was THE MAGIC GARDEN. Every weekday our TV friends, Carole and Paula, shared stories, songs, games, lessons, and laughter. To this day, we fondly remember those songs and the warmth and humor of the show that meant so much to us as kids.

THE MAGIC RETURNS

“Here in the garden what we say and do, we’d like you to join us and do it too.”

You can help bring back the joy of THE MAGIC GARDEN for today’s kids. This new, animated, series is not only a reboot, it’s also a prequel! It reimagines Carole and Paula as little girls, who love to meet up every day in their magical garden to play, to sing, and to have some fun with their friends, Sherlock and Flapper (who are also little and just learning about the world).  Everything you loved about THE MAGIC GARDEN is back: The Magic Tree, The Story Box, The Swings, and more!

THE ORIGINAL CAROLE & PAULA ARE BACK

“I’m fine. Me too. We’re fine, and how are you?”

Ever-present in the garden are two comical sunflowers, which will be voiced by Carole Demas and Paula Janis, the original Carole and Paula. These playful plants are a classic comedy duo, providing humorous commentary, words of wisdom, silly jokes, sing-alongs, etc. The sunflowers refer to themselves as “funflowers” because they are always up for some fun.

“If you sing for me (la la-la-la-la-la) I’ll sing for you (lu lu-lu-lu-lu-lu).”

WE CAN’T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!

To bring an animated version of The Magic Garden to life, we’re going to need YOUR help! We want to create an animated pilot — a proof of concept — to help sell the series to a network.  The more money we raise, the more minutes of animation we can produce. And that means more Magic!

When you fund and support this project you will help bring back the magic of this children’s classic for a new generation.

Join us in our efforts to bring back The Magic Garden, and together we can make something special!

Select a perk level on the right side or top of this page or just back the project by clicking the pink “BACK IT/CONTRIBUTION” button at the top of the page.

Below you can find out more about THE MAGIC GARDEN, the project goals, and the goodies you can get when you help fund this project.

MAGICAL GIFTS JUST FOR YOU!

As a thank you, we have some AMAZING gifts that you just can’t get anywhere else!

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

Because money doesn’t grow on the Magic Tree, we rely on your generous help to make this happen! Animation is expensive, and every penny of our initial $125,000 goal is needed to create a proof-of-concept animation that can help us sell The New Magic Garden to a network.

OUR GOALS AND STRETCH GOALS.

If we can raise funds that stretch beyond our initial goal, we can independently create more episodes of The New Magic Garden, and get the content to you as quickly as possible! And the more money we raise, the more animation… and the more magic!

THE ORIGINAL CAROLE AND PAULA

CAROLE DEMAS and PAULA JANIS, the original stars of THE MAGIC GARDEN, are loved and remembered by a generation of children and their families. Lifelong friends since high school, they have an impressive list of credentials, both as entertainers and educators.

CAROLE, a Broadway and TV legend, continues her distinguished career as an actress and singer in theatre, television, concerts, and film. She is best known for her critically acclaimed creation of the female lead, “Sandy”, in the original Broadway blockbuster, GREASE. Carole has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont and Masters Studies in Early Childhood Education at New York University.

PAULA traveled widely as a musician and lead singer with the folk trio The Wee’Uns, performing in live venues, on TV, and at Carnegie Hall. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Drama from Skidmore College, an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from New York University, and has completed course studies towards a Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education.

Together, the pair established a long-lasting legacy with THE MAGIC GARDEN, earning an enormous and very loyal fan base. In response to great demand, they produced THE MAGIC GARDEN cast album and 2 other record albums (one nominated for a Grammy). The seeds of THE MAGIC GARDEN were planted in the fall of 1962, when Carole and Paula taught Kindergarten together at PS 7, under The Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn NY. Today, Carole and Paula continue to appear in live Magic Garden retrospective stage shows and will serve as advisors on THE NEW MAGIC GARDEN.

MORE ABOUT THE ORIGINAL MAGIC GARDEN

From 1972 through 1984, one of the most beloved children’s television shows was THE MAGIC GARDEN. Every weekday, two cheerful women, Carole and Paula, welcomed viewers into their “magical garden of make-believe” where they shared stories, songs, games, lessons, and laughter.

Originating in New York and syndicated throughout the Tri-state area, THE MAGIC GARDEN drew rave reviews and scores of fans, who still remember it with great affection. Ask anyone who grew up watching THE MAGIC GARDEN and they will instantly call up fond memories of the show – and probably start singing one of its iconic, memorable songs!

THE MAGIC GARDEN was the most successful regional children’s television show in history, reaching millions of children every week.

YOU CAN HELP BRING BACK THE MAGIC

The joyful legacy of THE MAGIC GARDEN continues in this new, animated, preschool series. Part reboot, part prequel, this show reimagines Carole and Paula as little girls. They are best friends and neighbors, who go outside every day and meet up in the Magic Garden to make their own fun. Endlessly curious and creative, little Carole and Paula are always ready to play with each other, with their garden buddies, and with their friends: the viewers at home. They speak directly to the camera — to the children — warmly welcoming and including viewers as fellow playmates, and eliciting participation through songs and imaginative play.
