Help Davis Get the Justice he Deserves

Story

Chauncey Davis has been in detention for 11 months without a fair hearing, and we are raising funds for a self-defense attorney to get him the justice he deserves.

This Indiegogo has been set up to cover the cost of a lawyer and other legal fees (summed up to $45,000). His court hearing is scheduled for November.

He is presently using a public defender, and this holds NO promise of winning him the case as she is indifferent and wouldn’t care less about the implication of Davis losing the case. We strongly believe that with an excellent lawyer by his side, he stands a solid chance.

This is the only official GoFundMe for Davis. Please share and donate if you are able.

We cannot sit back and watch him be another statistic in the system for defending his sister, someone for whom he would readily give his own life.

Chauncey Davis is a happy man who derives special joy in making others happy. He accepts people for who they are without making them feel judged.

And for how deep we know Davis, he has the best listening ears, the warmest smile and the brightest mind, a man who would never INTENTIONALLY harm another. Davis is gentle and has this infectious personality that impacts everyone he meets and, above all, a ray of sunshine to his kids.

However, no matter how gentle one is, there are times when using force is the only way to stop an aggressor who is about to injure you or someone you genuinely love.

On September 10th, 2021, while Davis’s sister was at the repast of her kids'(all still minors) father, she was accosted by her ex’s eldest son, who had been displaying baiter behavior earlier that day.

What started as a confrontation would later turn into an attack. He aggressively headbutted her and tried forcefully to take a key from the daughter standing next to her. Fortunately, at this moment, Davis arrived with his girlfriend to pay their respects.

And just like any big brother, his protective instinct kicked in immediately. He tried to intervene, but his attempt was resisted, which turned into a serious scuffle. In the heat of the event, he remembered that he had a small legal pocketknife he regularly carries, and he reflexively pulled it out and struck the attacker. Amidst the chaos ensued, he ran for fear of being outnumbered as more of the aggressor’s family came.

A young man with a gun chased after him. Luckily, Davis was able to flee the scene. The police arrived moments later and proceeded to watch the footage, after which they instructed that he should be brought in because it was “clearly self-defense.”

On the 11th of September (the following day), his kids accompanied their dad to the station, and it’s been almost one year and counting. Nothing has been done to get Davis Justice.

Despite watching the video, his public defender does nothing in court and outside. The public defender is not helping, which could be the only obstacle to his freedom.

· The public defender knows nothing; this is her first murder case. She forgets who Davis (her supposed client) is during court via zoom with several inmates on the screen and has never spoken to Davis’s sister (the primary victim of the case). She’s only been to see Davis twice since he was detained. She nods in agreement with the prosecutor, confuses facts, and is generally uninformed.

Therefore, We must Step in for Davis!

The consequence of not hiring an experienced, private self-defense attorney could be a Lifetime conviction for him.

The bottom line is that no matter how talented or dedicated (if dedicated) a public defender is, they often lack time, finance, and other resources to thoroughly investigate a case and launch an aggressive defense.

In contrast to the experience of a seasoned private attorney, public defenders are not specialized even though they are licensed, attorneys. Using a public defender is like visiting a family doctor when you need a heart surgeon.

In the Atlanta judiciary system, as we know it today, a lack of funds to properly prepare cases and total dependency on government-paid defenders almost always lead to a conviction. This outcome would likely be entirely different with a private lawyer.

Why a Private Attorney?

The self-defense argument is about the most complicated, sensitive, and complex case.

As such, Davis needs an attorney he can work hand in hand with, develop a confidential attorney-client relationship, and have enough time to discuss strategies for the case and many other decisions that will come up before November.

He has a devoted, close-knit family supporting him financially and emotionally through these difficult times.

However, it’s gotten a little too much for his family to spend money on his books, pay for phone calls, and try to run other expenses while managing their own daily lives.

This unformatted life occurrence can affect not just Davis but the entire family too, as they cannot and will not allow the judicial system to sweep this under the rug.

The video was and is still a clear indicator that he acted in self-defense while responding to the immediate threat, but the case is about to be forgotten and unattended. We firmly believe everything will fall in place with the proper legal representation.

Additionally, Davis would feel much better having a paid attorney on his side, as self-defense law is intricate and requires a “strong” hand. Getting to the root of this would also restore his faith in the legal system.

On the bright side, Davis worked as a carpenter/Journeyman at his previous job before the incident. And luckily, he will be retained once he’s out.

We appreciate anything anyone can donate. Davis is always the first to offer help to others. Today we are asking the community to come together and help him get justice. Please, join us.

We are deeply grateful for your time and attention.
