Combat Arts Academy is more than just a gym – help us achieve our dreams, receive some awesome perks

Story

What is CAA? Who are we?

Become part of our community. By getting in on one of our exclusive offers, you’re helping to extend our community beyond our school and deeper into the West Seattle neighborhood. You can either use for yourself or gift to a family or friend. You’ll help us provide a wonderful training experience for all current and new members and you can start to get healthy and fit right now even if you’re on a budget.

We are Combat Arts Academy, an established, community-funded small business that is exchanging some amazing perks to fund our expansion. This will continue to provide excellent service to our members, while drawing in more of the West Seattle community.

We are a diverse group of skilled martial artists passionate about sharing knowledge and helping others achieve their goals. We offer Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, and Strength & Conditioning to kids and adults of ALL ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. Most gyms are just a place where you go to sweat. That isn’t us. We are a community center where adults and children thrive through our programs and mentoring. CAA is a place where we support one another by learning, sweating, and laughing in all aspects of life. We genuinely believe that through hard work, every individual can foster the right kind of growth and progress in achieving success.

We’re also that place that feels like a second home. We want you to feel comfortable to be yourself without fear of judgement. What we do at CAA isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. We want this to be a commitment to make your life better – we work together to accomplish individual goals, whether it’s to feel healthier/stronger, compete, learn self-defense, gain confidence, or alleviate some stress.

In August of 2012, an empty warehouse at 5050 Delridge became the home of what was then known as West Seattle Fight and Fitness. Over the next several years, through an evolutionary process full of challenges and hardships, the space morphed into Combat Arts Academy (CAA). CAA was a dream, built for the community, by the community.

What sets us apart?

We believe it is our responsibility to create the type of world we want to live in. We do this by providing life skills to children as well as experiences beyond social media and video games. We instill strong values and leadership skills in the youth of CAA. Teaching them to be responsible young people, both socially and academically, is a passion for our coaches. You’ll see our adults gain the benefits of mindful and consistent practice through fitness and martial arts. Not only does this create a safe training environment, but it leads to an improved quality and length of life. All members feel like they can be themselves when they walk through our doors.

Why do we need your help?

CAA is a self-sustaining business – we continue to invest in our facility and take care of our staff members. We are one of the few martial arts academies that offers full benefits to our employees. We have this incredible expansion opportunity that requires a lot of capital. In order to do that, we are raising money by asking for some help from those who believe in us.

The Numbers

We will be making the improvements below to CAA over the course of the year. These will happen in planned stages as the funding becomes available. Should we raise additional funds beyond our goal, it will funnel into continued building improvements, including heating/cooling measures.

Phase 1: Strength and Conditioning – $80,000

  • New equipment: $30,000
    • Additional squat racks, cardio equipment, cable machines, dumbbells, barbells, plates, kettlebells – imagine your fitness happy place and that is what we would like to create
    • This space will be separate from CAA – both physically and operationally. We’ll have a whole new name with the same excellent quality. While we will continue to run Strength & Conditioning classes, we will also offer gym-access memberships to the general public.
    • Did we mention that we hope to operate 24/7?
  • Buildout: $50,000
    • We need to level the floors, put up some walls and changing rooms, and renovate the restrooms.

Phase 2: Café – $50,000-$100,000

The Delridge neighborhood is in desperate need of a sit-down coffeeshop providing beverages, snacks, and food. We have a vision where this café become a cornerstone in the community, a place where people come together for all sorts of reasons. This is in the beginning planning stages and we hope to have more details soon.

The café scope and vision will evolve as permitting moves forward.

Phase 3: Gym Facelift – $30,000

While the BJJ and Muay Thai areas already have plenty of mat space, we will make a few upgrades and expand the mat area. This will include approximately 900 sq ft of extra space.

We will also update the windows (approximately $10k), freshen and clean up the exterior, re-paint the interior, add a new kids area, and provide an improved seating area for parents.

Grand Total: $160,000-$210,000

Our goal is to raise the initial $60k from generous people like you and make up the rest through business loans and potential investors. Can you help us reach our goal? To sweeten the deal, we will be offering perks for your donations.  Check them out!

NOTE: If we reach $100,000, Coach Sonia will be shaving her head, and the person with highest donation will get to make the first cut (top 5 donations will have an opportunity to swipe the clippers).
