Help us raise $125,000 for a hardwood skate floor and memories that last a lifetime!

Story

What We’re About

We are long-term Calgarians who love our city and love roller skating! We believe in the importance of recreational spaces as being vital in building strong vibrant communities. Places where you can connect, be seen, and be a part of something.

For the last five years we have been offering Pop Up Roller Rink events, learn to skate classes, hosting Canada’s only Roller Skate festival and more. Each year as we’ve grown, we’ve re-invested into opening more time and space for people to skate and now we are taking it to the next level. We’re opening a roller rink in Calgary!

What We Need & What You Get

House of Skate will be opening winter of 2023 and we’ve put everything into making sure our doors can open. What we don’t have is enough finances for that maple floor that Calgarians grew to love over the last 60 years before our last rink closed.

We want to raise $125,000 to give Calgary the skate floor we all deserve. If you ever asked that question, “Why don’t we have a roller rink? Where can we go to skate”?  Now is the time to be a part of the answer.

Your contribution is not just about some floor. It’s about creating memories, shared experiences and joy for generations to come. I think we can all agree that Calgary needs more fun and more safe places to connect.

  • We have many cool perks you can purchase! 50% off skating when we open, Sneak-a-Peak tickets before we open to the public, Private Parties for you and 25 friends, House of Skate shirts, discount on memberships and a founding member’s plaque displayed at the rink!

We are counting on the optimism and generosity of Calgarians. It’s not just our House of Skate but your house too!

The Impact

If just 10% of Calgarians put in $1, we can meet our goal. For over 60 years, Calgary had a roller rink and Calgarians of all ages and all walks of life have a story about their connection to the rink. Decades of shared memories and experiences that have connected us across generations. How special is that?! We sure think so!

You are contributing to building a strong, vibrant community space that keeps on giving these shared memories and experiences for future generations.

In Spring of 2018 we raised $2,000 in an Indiegogo campaign to buy a fleet of heavily used vintage skates. We turned that into $40,000 of revenue and reinvested into upgrading our old rentals with a brand new fleet of skates for a better skating experience. Additionally, we were able to rent bigger venues to accommodate more skaters. We have a proven track record and we aren’t afraid of hard work. Skating means everything to us!

Challenges We face

Commercial buildings are really expensive! So much goes into the things you don’t see: building permits, HVAC system, fire prevention, engineers, architects and more. But you know what’s most important? Your experience!  We want more than anything to give you that beautiful skate experience on hardwood!

We have put everything into this project and the last hurdle is the flooring. We can open with a basic floor; however, primary research across North America has shown us that the most important contribution to the success of a rink is the floor. Top quality maple floor = repeat customers. Repeat customers = sustainability. The success of any recreational space is giving people an experience they want to come back to. That is why we need your help!

Other Ways You Can Help
