Story

(NOTE: This product WILL ship in time for Christmas!)

The problem

Taping things can get very tedious, especially if you have to wrap tons of gifts or seal hundreds of envelopes. In this case, the “Harimouse,” a one-handed auto-tape cutting tool, is one mouse you DO want to have in your house.

What is a “Harimouse”?

The Harimouse is a one handed tape cutting tool that:

Lets you cut the exact size of cellophane tape you need so theres no waste.

Makes rote taping tasks a breeze through one-handed operation

Saves 90% of your taping time

No more envelopes to lick

No need to touch the tape and dirty it with your fingerprints

Fits in your pocket

Is designed ergonomically to  fit your hand for long-lasting comfort

Made in Japan from virgin plastic, the highest grade plastic made in Japan (plastic used in gears and machinery).

Simply push down onto the surface you want to tape, roll the Harimouse as far as you need your tape to go, and lift for an automatic cut! It’s that simple.

Why back this campaign?

The product was invented and patented by a quirky Japanese inventor who continues to dream up new products. It is a small family business and is therefore subject to all the challenges a small business faces to survive.  Just to name a few challenges that small business owners have to face:

Having their products copied and mass produced in China with no recourse to do anything about it due to insufficient funds.

Cost issues due to not having enough customers to meet minimum order requirements, resulting in surcharges levied on the order, which have to be passed on to the consumer or the business goes bankrupt.

Lack of advertising budget due to being a small business, resulting in slow sales, which results in inventory storage costs, which eat into profits.

Reliance on consumers to leave reviews if they liked the product. Most people only leave reviews if they hate a product, resulting in the only visible reviews being 1 star, resulting in no one buying the product, stock sitting in warehouses, storage costs piling up, and resultantly, no income, which not only kills that product off since it cant be reordered, but any hope of future products that could have been developed as well. This stifles innovation by small inventors in addition to new product creation. This doesn’t only hurt the small business but everyone because certain new ideas never get developed and consumers ultimately don’t get as much choice.

If you prefer products mass produced in China by mega-companies with large advertising budgets then this product and campaign are not for you. But if you want to support small businesses so they can keep dreaming and keep bringing consumers new products and improving them, then consider pledging for this and other campaigns from small businesses; and review the products you support whenever and wherever you can; it really can mean the difference between keeping the doors open or going bankrupt.

Risks & Challenges

There will be no to minimal risk, as the product is made entirely in Japan at a contracted factory of Panasonic, one of the largest companies in Japan. We dont need to rely on materials from other countries.

Because shipping cost from Japan is high, with previous campaigns, in order to try to save money on shipping and charge backers less, we did not send products direct from Japan to the backers, even though the product was made in Japan. We first sent the products to a logistics company in China in bulk, and from there, the products were shipped to individual backers.

But this method had a lot of disadvantages, including lockdowns in China causing delays, long delivery times with China local couriers, even product damage due to decontamination procedures at the airport.

This time, we have learned our lesson and will ship directly from Japan using UPS. Fast, tracking, and guaranteed delivery. Shipping via UPS will add on $20 to the product price. Shipping price will not change even if you purchase up to 10 Harimice, so it is advantageous to order in bulk.
