Funding Sustainable Upgrades Together

Story

Let’s Get It On

We know how excited everyone is for Masters of Puppets Festival 2023, July 3–9, because we are also looking very forward to seeing you all and dancing together again.

Nearly a decade has passed since we started this journey together and a lot has been achieved ever since, but it’s still just the beginning. With your continued support, which has been the foundation of this wild ride since the beginning, we are entering a new chapter as we have a lot of work scheduled to optimise your festival experience! Let’s get it on, take a big step toward quality and sustainability, transition to renewable energies, reduce waste, upgrade our infrastructure, and maximise our potential. That kind of development would usually take small steps and years to unfold, but we call on our international family to come together and raise against the machine!

Masters of Puppets has always been a common cause. No matter if you came to dance, play or  work hard, in the last 8 years we have grown something beautiful together. Many of friendships, soul mates and even families have developed along the way, kids were born, dear ones passed and will always be missed. We shared wild times and great dance floors, counted stars and mastered storms together. It is a unique family that gathers every year for this happening and it’s growing a bit, every year, just like our shared memories. It’s in our common interest to make sure our gathering avoids harmful impact and to improve the overall experience and infrastructure in a way that protects nature for future celebrations and generations. Let us do everything in our joint power to make the annual gathering of our underground family even more enjoyable, memorable, unique and sustainable than you are accustomed to.

What goes around comes around, especially when it comes to family, so we naturally devised some enticing perks to compensate for your contribution, such as lifetime passes, early camping access, private toilets, and exclusive merch. Take a look, we’re sure you’ll find something 🙂

Masters of Puppets: Who we are

Masters of Puppets is an annual week-long music festival and gathering, since 2014 put together by the same, continuously growing, group of dedicated music enthusiasts, for music enthusiasts. The program consists of high paced eclectic psychedelic and experimental music, combined with artistic performances and 3D projection mapping of another kind on two stages, a chill-out stage invites you to rest and dream. The experience is set in a dynamic wood-sculpted steampunk environment, meticulously designed and developed over years by a small group of dedicated creative visionaries. Various shops offer vegan, vegetarian, and flexitarian handmade foods and handcrafted artefacts such as jewellery and clothing, while the Bau Art Gallery and Academia workshop space complete the composition with education and visionary art exposition.

Thank you Markus!

The Dirt

How we will reduce waste in Gastronomy by introducing reusable cups and dishes, reducing chemical waste by implementing eco toilets, and implementing an on-site supermarket with sustainable packaging.

Junk

A big issue for every gathering is trash, not only because it’s a lot to handle and to pay disposal fees on, but mainly because we have to reduce the ecological impact of celebrating together, as far as it is in any way possible. Psychedelic lifestyle, as we understand and promote it, celebrates love for life, nature and each other.

One of the biggest sources of waste at any festival are single-use dishes for food and beverages at the bar and the food shop. We’ve known about this for a while, and we have to change it, which starts with establishing proper dish-washing infrastructure and printing thousands of specially branded reusable Masters of Puppets cups and reusable metal straws.

Immediate Benefits:

  • Overall trash reduction
  • Cups that can be taken home as a souvenir (deposit system in place)
  • Reusable metal straws
  • Less reliance on materials that harm the environment
  • Not supporting companies that create single use plastic
  • Reduced costs on clearing up waste means more money to put towards improving festival, sustainability and waste reduction initiatives

People Shit

Chemical toilets are another major source of waste. Despite the fact that the Czech Republic’s legal regulations prohibit the composting of human excrement, we will install a first batch of 15 chemical-free toilets and have the waste disposed of by a company that handles it chemical-free and ecologically. That will take a lot of wood, screws, and work hours to finish nicely.

Immediate Benefits:

  • Chemical waste reduction
  • Smell reduction
  • Save money on portaloo rental which allows money to go towards improving the toilet systems each year
  • Reducing the general unpleasantness of the festival portaloo experience

Fresh

Last but not least, the trash you bring with you makes for a big factor in our waste impact. We do understand that you need food and drinks for yourself. Sometimes you just want to cook at your camp instead of hiking to the next food shop and also hydration is important, not to mention the repairing factor of a beer before hitting the festival area again. Anyhow, to bring in food and drinks for a week annoyingly reduces capacities for friends and luggage in the car.  We have designed a solution for both, our trash and your capacityproblem, and will supply a supermarket with foods in reusable, sustainable on demand packaging at standard retail prices. That supermarket will require a tent, cooling, and other infrastructure to operate, but it will be well worth it.

Immediate Benefits:

  • Onsite supermarket / no restocking off site
  • Overall waste reduction
  • Fresh foods at regular prices
  • More space in your car
  • Buy on demand, keep your fridge clear for beer

Here Comes The Sun

How we will reduce fossil fuel dependency and introduce renewable energy solutions, to reduce emissions, noise pollution and, on the long term, expenses.

Today solar power technology has developed and become affordable, so that most event solutions, such as camping lighting, gate infrastructure, housing, production offices and public charging stations, can be powered by it. Additionally it enables the use of green energy for power tools during the production.

Establishing mobile solar solutions for the Masters of Puppets Venue, will reduce the carbon footprint of your experience, will take noise pollution out of the camping areas and save money that we will invest in your festival experience, other than in gasoline. Taking that a step further, we will establish electric vehicle charging stations. That allows us to switch our production shuttle logistics from fossil fuel to rental electric cars, significantly reducing our environmental impact and allowing you to party with a cleaner conscience. In the long term it will allow us to invest savings into establishing solar heating for the free showers, nfc-locks for bungalows that open with your wristband, nfc-shower coins that are stored on the wristband and a lot more.

Immediate Benefits:

  • Green lighting on camping areas
  • Green gate infrastructure
  • Green artist shuttle
  • Green public charging stations for phones and electronic devices
  • Green production offices
  • Green energy for power tools used during site build and production
  • Noise pollution on campsites eliminated
  • Common carbon footprint reduced by 39720 kg each year
  • Contribute to other events sustainability and generate income by renting out mobile solutions
  • Future savings to be put towards solar heated showers and nfc solutions for bungalow and shower access
  • Approx 12,000 litres of fossil fuels saved each year

All That She Wants

How we are going to bring in heavy machinery to update, upgrade and renew our infrastructure and stages, enhancing your festival experience and our productive potential at the same time.

Our current technical possibilities limit us in our potential, so to take a step forward in production quality, upgrade our infrastructure and standards and master the challenges that come with that, we have to bring in heavy machinery, such as cherry pickers, tractors, trailers and trucks. Also we need resources and operating licences. We will remove the Tower on Rage Stage and relocate it, create a new Rage Stage, construct a new bridge to the main festival arena that can be utilised by production cars, deliveries and emergency services. There is a lot to do and a long way to go. We have to start work, but we need a little help from our friends to do so.

Immediate Benefits:

  • New Rage Stage artscape and architecture
  • Relocated new Rage Stage tower
  • New bridge to the festival area, passable for rescue, production and cleaning cars
  • Machinery takes away infrastructure limitations and medieval style work efforts
  • Improved work and volunteering experience
  • Building maintenance and safety
