So far, we have provided 30 songs  in the  offline playlist, including 27 famous classical music melodies and 3 original melodies composed by experienced composers. There will be more available songs for free download because Muro Box has a fast-growing community.

1. The only feasible way for making one music box movement to play your own song!  A customized traditional music box requires 1000-3000 pc as the minimum order from its factory, plus $600 USD music programming fee per song. In Muro Box, you can compose any song by yourself without any extra cost.

2. You don’t need to punch holes on a paper-strip music box. Just upload the MIDI file of your favorite song via our APP, Muro Box will play this special song right away!

3. Our price is much more affordable than the existing programmable music box, Primotone, which costs about $3,000 USD. Primotone provides 150 songs in the SD card, but customers cannot play their own creation nor change the content in the SD card. Muro Box gives you much more freedom in composing and choosing your own songs to play on a music box.

You can provide an image in jpg or png formate for us to use laser carving to customize the wood box design of your Muro Box. This laser carving service ($30 USD per Muro Box) is an add-on option for customers who have selected a perk containing at least one Muro Box.

Muro Box will get major updates in this Indiegogo batch according to our previous backers’ suggestions. The most important changes are as follows:

1. Re-designing the motherboard
An updated MCU with 4x processing power than previous version. New support of USB-C charging.
2. Reducing mechanical noise
The clutch system used in the previous version of Muro Box produces noticeable sound during operation. We are working on new mechanical structure to reduce this sound.
3. Better sound quality
The wooden sound box is redesigned to get better sound quality. The previous version of Muro Box shows noticeable vibration noise caused by resonance between the note D4 and C5.
4. More durable material
With the lesson learnt from the pilot run production, we update our production processes to use even more advanced metal and plating methods.
5. Updating APP constantly
Muro Box can do much more than your imagination. Want to compose song with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI)? More features will be available soon.

We spent more than 3 years in designing Muro Box. Here is the summary of what we have done, including countless tests to refine the functions and increase the stability. 

When we reach the 200K USD goal, the default power supply will be upgraded from standard DC jack to USB Type-C power adapter. A 45 watt USB-C power bank (not included) with PD support can be used to drive Muro Box. Finally, you can go camping with a Muro Box!!

When we reach the 300K goal, a new perk item of MIDI input will be available as an add-on option with additional charge. MIDI In provides an additional way to control Muro Box with a MIDI keyboard in real-time. We plan to use traditional 5-pin MIDI connector. Do you like USB MIDI instead? Please tell us your opinion.

When we reach the 500K goal, a new perk item of Microphone Line Out will be available as an add-on option with additional charge. You can plug in a 6.3 mm mono phone jack to Muro Box for audio signal output. This will be helpful when you need to play Muro Box in a large room or open space like a wedding hall.

Our team is based in Taiwan, where very little people know that it was the biggest manufacturer of the music box in 1970s – 80s. Although the music box industry was declining for decades, there is still one last factory in Taiwan, Kyooh Precision Industry. Kyooh has produced music box movements and cooperated with Sankyo, the most famous music box brand in Japan for decades.

With the cooperation with Kyooh, our team invented the world’s first app-controlled cylinder for the music box in 2017 and uses it on our smart music box, Muro Box.

Taiwan is famous for its precision metal industry. With the pride of the skills and quality of the factories, each Muro Box has more than 200 metal components, and all of them are made in Taiwan, assembled in Taiwan and then confidently presented to the world.

Dr. Feng and Dr. Tsai are a couple who have received their Ph.D. degrees in the United States and decided to integrate their expertise in engineer and education to run a startup. “Use technology to connect people’s hearts” is their vision because they believe that technology should bring people not only convenience in life but also care between each other.

They started the idea of modifying a music box because it recalled their love memory of exchanging student life in Austria. Dr. Tsai bought a music box playing Mozart’s song, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” when they visited the residence of Mozart in Saltzberg.

Music boxes are often bought as gifts for the important ones. For a long time, people have wished that the music box can play any song they love. In order to make the wish come true, they invested more than three years in designing the cylinder structure of a music box. They hope that Muro Box will be the best gift for your loved one.

Muro Box will be shipped from Taiwan, and we are able to ship worldwide. You can check the most updated shipping rate for your country by beginning the checkout process and entering your shipping information.

If that’s the case, we need to contact you before shipping to collect any additional fees that will apply.

Please note that the backer is responsible for VAT (Value Added Tax) and GST (Goods and Services Tax). VAT and GST are not included in the perk nor the shipping fee. Please check your country’s import duties before purchasing. You may wonder why we set the shipping date late until December 2020 given that we have shipped a pilot run batch in Taiwan. It is because we want to optimize the design based on the feedback from our pilot run users. We take Muro Box seriously and our team is dedicated to make Muro Box the best music box you ever have. It is possible we can ship the product before Christmas, but like other crowdfunding projects, We highly recommend you NOT count on the shipping date for time-sensitive occasions.
