A docu-series on the stories of humanity told through food.

Story

ENGLISH VERSION

Who am I? My name is Lodovica and I am an incurable curious who loves to investigate food and its stories. I like to go beyond what is on the table and know who and what is behind every product I taste.

I studied at the University of Gastronomic Sciences, in Italy, where I got to know and discover people and food from all over the world.

In my work experience, I have traveled the world to discover different cultures and gastronomic realities. These trips have allowed me to get in touch with many food stories and cultures from different continents, especially thanks to the many meetings with farmers, producers, indigenous communities and NGOs, all linked to the world of food.

Mine was a unique and rare opportunity to meet the faces and voices of the main actors of food production from Africa to South America, to Asia.

Because it is not only about food itself, but also about biodiversity, cultural heritage, societies and economies, all linked by the same thread: sustainability.

My passion has reached the point where I asked myself: how can I contribute to preserve and tell these stories? Why not collect them to create the first story of the world through food?

My project, therefore, stems from curiosity and the desire to put together the stories that constitute the gastronomic heritage on which cultures around the world have developed their culinary traditions.

“ROOTS- the stories behind food” is a docu-series on the stories of sustainable food production told through the experiences and voices of the protagonists of food: farmers. The story of global biodiversity will be told by hundreds of producers through a common language: food.

I created this project as a vehicle to improve society through education and knowledge of the stories and realities hidden behind this world. In the docu-series, emphasis is placed on biodiversity and how today’s food choices are closely linked to climate change, and consequently to our health.

With me, Beatrice Surano, videomaker, takes care of the creative part of the videos, helping me in this great enterprise of mine. Beatrice brings her infinite energy charge in every project and has always been attentive to environmental and social issues. After studying Sociology and some years of university research, she left the academy to dedicate herself full-time to the audiovisual world, also collaborating with institutions and schools in the promotion of training courses related to video documentation and social research. She loves travelling, discovering new foods and flavours, immersing herself totally in the contexts and culture of the places she visited: this makes her a perfect travel companion for the Roots project.

The format

What are the products that have defined the history of the gastronomic culture of each continent?

There will be 7 seasons, each of which represents a continent ( + 1 worldwide). Within the season there will be 6 episodes of about 35-40 minutes: each of them represents one of the products that have distinguished and defined the gastronomic history of the continent itself. (Ex. Season1: Europe. Episodes: Wine, Beer, Bakery, Cheese, Oil, Anchovies)

To get back into the investment of this project – already started in the creation of the first shots of the pill – I wanted to launch a crowdfunding campaign. But we need your support to create something new. The funds will then be used for:

  • support the costs of the trailer
  • to cover out-of-pocket expenses incurred for the first shootings
  • cover content costs for crowdfunding campaign graphics material
  • out-of-pocket expenses
  • producers’ scouting expenses
  • scripting expenses
  • manufacturing costs
  • video making and editing expenses
  • create from scratch a professional site with in-depth content to insert the material gradually collected.

With this financial support, I will be able to complete the steps aimed at creating this project by finding, financing, film producers and distributors, so that I can finally realize the docu- series.

The campaign will start October the 5th  and I hope to see you take part in it. Follow the Facebook e  Instagram pages so you don’t miss the stories.

On this page you will find the “pill” of the first shots shot in Morocco, so you can get a taste of what will be shot all over the world.
