Help us fund Singapore’s first BL web series based on the popular short film, Summerdaze.

Story

In 2018, we produced a short film called Summerdaze which attracted over 3 million views online. Since its publishing, thousands of fans have left comments asking for the short film to be made into a movie or a full series.

As a response, we are raising funds to produce an 8-episode web series featuring the characters from the short film. The series will be in English, with an average runtime of 15 minutes per episode.

The Story

Popular idol and young heartthrob, Evan, is forced to star in a queer film to redeem himself after posting insensitive material on his social media. He meets Kai, an aspiring actor who has just gotten his first big break starring as Evan’s on-screen love interest. Sparks fly both on-screen and off, as we get a glimpse of what happens when the camera stops rolling…

The Cast and Characters

David Eung as Evan

A child actor who grew up in the spotlight and never left it. Spoiled. Insensitive. Naive. Evan is signed to the prestigious talent management company, Lumiere Entertainment. He takes his popularity for granted, reveling in wealth and adoration. After posting ignorant comments on social media, he is forced to act in a BL movie to redeem himself and save his reputation in the queer community.

Alfred Sng as Kai

Kai is an aspiring actor who’s hardworking and ambitious. His modest background keeps him humble and street-smart, despite always being praised for his good looks. Signed to a C-list talent agency D’Entertainment, he is perhaps the most valuable talent in the company. He gets his big break as the main lead for an upcoming BL movie. Despite having tension with Evan, he pushes through to make his dreams of stardom come true.

Patricia Mok as Aileen

Executive Director, Lead Trainer, Head of Sales and Talent Manager at D’Entertainment, Aileen works harder than Kris Jenner, but unfortunately isn’t as successful. She is dramatic and uncouth, but well-meaning, and treats her artistes as her own children. The future of her company depends on Kai’s success, as she struggles to rescue her company from mediocrity.

Irene Ang as Caroline

Poised. Fashionable. Intimidating. Caroline runs Lumiere Entertainment with an iron fist, managing top-tier artistes like Evan and Leah. Underneath her tough exterior, she struggles to keep her failing marriage afloat.

Tasha Low as Leah

The only daughter of an A-list celebrity couple, Leah was born to be in the limelight. Beautiful. Intelligent. She has known Evan since they were kids, and eventually dated. They were the ultimate It couple, until she decided to travel the world to find herself, only to reappear in the scene three years later. Unbeknownst to Kai, she has her heart set on getting Evan back, and she will do anything to get her way.

Jon Louis as Lucas

A final-year university student who manages an ice-cream cafe, Lucas is charming, kind, and a hopeless romantic. He is the perfect guy but maintains a brotherly relationship with Kai. His plans to confess his feelings for him go south when Kai gets the most important phone call of his life.

Aiman Haikal as Summer

An aspiring makeup artist and president of Evan’s fan club – until the scandal breaks the fan club apart. He is kind, sassy, and optimistic about life. Along the way, he ends up working together with Evan and they end up as close friends, dishing out some much-needed relationship advice and support.

Paul Lee as Russell

A highly sought-after director after his debut film won various awards overseas. Eccentric and artistic, he is passionate about filmmaking and holds high standards for his cast and crew.

In Singapore, the government and media industry is not supportive of shows with LGBT themes and it is near impossible to get sponsors to come on board. We really want to bring this show to the fans but we are in need of the budget to fund the production.

All proceeds from this crowdfunding campaign will go into the production and marketing of this series. These would include expenses such as:

  • Transport or travel costs
  • Rental of filming gear
  • Hire of the production crew, make-up artists, and post-production team
  • Administrative costs
  • Location fees and permits
  • Remuneration for our casts
  • Marketing and distribution of the series

We understand that not everyone is able to donate and we want you to know that there are plenty of other ways you can still show your support!

  • Follow us on Instagram @summerdazetheseries. Share our posts so more people will be able to know about the series.
  • Every social media share on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Weibo matters to us!
  • We are also looking for collaborators and sponsors who can contribute to certain aspects of the production e.g. casting, wardrobe, catering, locations, etc. If you’re interested to be a part of this show, let’s discuss!
