The Story!

We meet Tommy Higgins while he’s peering out the passenger window of a rented Chevy stuck in the morning rush hour traffic on West side Highway. Tommy is reminiscing about the old neighborhood while his driver, Carlos, is grooving on reggaeton. When Tommy stops at a Hell’s Kitchen Bar and Grill, we learn that he hasn’t been around for a while. Paddy Moran, the owner of the gin mill didn’t recognize him. Tommy was an enforcer for the mob. A big man that scared the shit out of most of his customers without ever having to break an arm or a leg. His gut has grown since then, his hair has turned white and he’s grown a full beard. Nobody will ever mistake him Santa Claus. “Heard you bought the farm, boyo,” Paddy said.

After Tommy retrieves a revolver and some cash that he had stashed away in Moran’s office, he has Carlos take him to lunch at Lemongello’s Restaurant. Louie Lemongello was floored. He hadn’t seen his sister Loretta or her husband Tommy in fifteen years. Tommy Higgins and his family were placed into the witness protection program after he ratted on some Boston wise guys. Now that Loretta has passed away, Tommy has come out of hiding to collect the fifty grand that Louie owes him. Louie tries to jerk Tommy’s chain by telling him that he’s broke but Tommy is wise to his bull shit. The safe in Louie’s office is a wise guy bank. It’s a temporary spot used to hold money for the mob. There is only thirty five grand in the safe and Tommy takes it . Louie pulls a .380 auto out of his pocket of his trousers but Tommy grabs it. There is a brief struggle. Louie is no match for Tommy. He snatches the .380 and is about to put one in Louie’s brain when Louie cries out Loretta. Tommy stops and spares his brother in – law’s life.

Eugene Peluso and Sallie Ciero are soldiers in Anthony “Chic” Chicarella’s crew. When word gets back to Chicarella that Tommy Higgins has surfaced and that he robbed their bank at Lemongello’s, Eugene and Sallie are assigned to hit Tommy Higgins. In Louie’s reports to Eugene and Sallie he says that Tommy stole half million dollars from their bank. Louie’s no dummy. He saw a chance to cover the money that he’s been skimming from the bank and took it.

Tommy has come out of hiding to make some real money. His first stop was to collect the money that was owed to him by Louie. Next he and his pal Nikos Pappadimos plan to hit a card game in the basement of a Greek Diner. With that money and the 35 grand that he collected from Louie he plans to buy a few kilos of Mexican heroin from an old connection and sell it when he gets back home to New Mexico. Tommy wants to pay for his one daughter’s wedding and the others daughters college tuition. He can’t do that with the money he makes as a lineman for PNM. If all goes well, he will be dancing with senoritas in Costa Rica.
