Short Sleep Duration  

CDC defines short sleep duration as less than 7 hours of sleep per 24-hour period. 35% of all adults in the U.S. suffer from short sleep duration. In some groups of the population, almost 50% of adults do not get a full night’s sleep. Having a quality night of sleep can increase productivity, reduce stress, and improve overall health. 

 The Science 

Research has shown that cuddling helps your body release oxytocin, also known as the cuddle hormone. Oxytocin is associated with happiness and  H igher levels of Oxytocin have been linked to falling asleep quickly and staying asleep. Some studies even attribute Oxytocin to a slew of other benefits including fewer nightmares.

The Cuddle Sleep weighted pillow has been engineered to simulate the weight and physical touch of cuddling. This involved a yearlong iterative design and development process that included beta testing, resulting in a pillow of perfect size, shape, weight, and material that feels like a real cuddle.

Dimensions & Material

The Cuddle Sleep weighted pillow incorporates a 4-layer Cotton shell to ensure breathability. The silky soft outer sleeve is made of a high-count Bamboo fabric which is cool to touch so you’ll never get hot and sweaty during the night.

The multilayer Cotton shell encloses a premium glass bead fill. This makes the pillow machine washable unlike weighted sleep products made of cheaper plastic fills that melt during a wash cycle. The absorbent cotton shell layer provides cushioning so you’ll never feel the texture of the weighted beads, making the pillow soft to touch. 

 Backed by Data

We beta tested different iterations of the pillow across a group of 30 users weighing 120 to 220 lbs to determine the final weight and length of the pillow. We tested a range of pillow weights between 3.5 and 8 lbs, and lengths between 40” and 60”. Based on the feedback we received, 5 lbs. (2.3 kg) seemed to be the weight that most users felt was comfortable and soothing. A length of 52”(132 cm) was long enough to ensure that the pillow could be used in any sleeping position.

Cuddle Sleep comes in a travel bag that takes up very little space in your carryon luggage. This way, you can carry a piece of your home no matter where you go and will be set to sleep peacefully in any corner of the world. 

Care

The outer sleeve is made of a durable high count Bamboo fabric which is 3X stronger than conventional cotton or microfiber fabric.  Both the sleeve and the pillow are machine washable.

 Why a Weighted Pillow over a Blanket? 

Weighted blankets have been around for a long time and provide anxiety relief for users, but as many of our beta users have experienced, it does not always provide the best results. Among over 100 weighted blanket users we surveyed, less than 20% use their blanket on a daily basis. The main reasons they do not use them consistently is that they run very hot especially during the summer months and they are not portable. Some users even experienced sore feet that kept them from having a deep sleep through the night.

The Cuddle Sleep weighted pillow is built around the scientific benefits of cuddling that helps people get to deeper sleep. Our weighted pillow gives most of the benefits of a weighted blanket while keeping your body cool and being easy to haul around. 

In fact, in our beta study, over 80% of users reported that the Cuddle Sleep weighted pillow significantly improved their sleep quality among which 50% had previously tried a weighted blanket and had given up.

When you back our project, it will show “$0” for shipping. Please do not add shipping costs to your pledge.  Shipping and taxes will be charged later during our address survey process to make the fulfillment process fast and easy. We will keep you updated after the campaign and give you plenty of time to answer the survey.

Our Estimated shipping costs based on current discounted market pricing is listed below. Incase we exceed a certain threshold of orders, we will be able to get a further discounted shipping rate.  Note that this is just an estimate and final shipping cost will be determined at the time of fulfillment in October.

Good Karma Mart was started in 2020 by a group of likeminded people to bring quality reusable and sustainable products that reduces waste in your homes. We have successfully delivered 2  campaigns during the pandemic despite global lockdowns and shipping container delays to thousands of happy customers. With our reusable bamboo bags and dishcloths, we estimate to have reduced the usage of over a million plastic bags and 2 million paper towels.

Some of our team members had experienced anxie  ty and insomnia during the beginning of the pandemic. When they could not find the right product in the market that suited them, we set out on a mission to create one.

Our trusted manufacturing partner has a decade of experience in the bedding and pillow industry with state of the art Textile machinery which led to a seamless working relationship during the prototyping process. They have an annual manufacturing revenue of over $15 million USD and are also STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified, ensuring that the products they manufacture do not come in contact with any harmful substances.

Why Indiegogo?

We’ve come this far by ourselves, with the development and testing of the pillows and funding the initial production samples. In order for us bring down the cost, we need to place an order with a minimum commitment quantity to our manufacturing partner. That is how our project funding goal was determined.

All we need now is your support to make Cuddle Sleep a reality so that every one of us can have a restful night of sleep. 

Risks and challenges

The Cuddle Sleep weighted pillow underwent ‘Design for Manufacturing’ process over the last year to ensure manufacturing robustness and scalability. This helps eliminate unnecessary delays during manufacturing and meet project lead time. As with any campaign, we might encounter minor unforeseen obstacles along the way, but we strive to have transparent communication with our backers to keep them well informed in every step of the process. We have also learned during our 2 previous Kickstarter campaigns that shipping can be unpredictable. To mitigate risks from shipping delays. we have added an additional month to our timeline. We will start shipping the pillows out as soon as all orders are packed and sent to our warehouse in Virginia (USA).
