A small but simple ios/android app that lets anyone post items they would like to give away free instead of throwing away.

Story

About My App Idea : CurbAlert

About:

Hello!!!! My name is Logan and I’m not much of a pitch person so here goes nothing. My friends and I have an app idea, CurbAlert is not an original idea as some of you might of heard of local Curbalert pages all through out social media websites like Facebook, but we would like to take the idea and create one centralized app to allow anyone anywhere in the US with a smart device (Iphone, Android, and Tablets) and even computers to post items that they do not want any longer and instead of throwing them away, they can set them out (on the curb) for anyone to take free.

Why:

Instead of throwing away something like lets say a barely used desk or maybe a baby stroller that works but you do not need it anymore and do not have the time to sell it, a lot of the times people just throw those items out and add more waste to our local landfills when a large percentage of the time there are people around locally who may not have money for new things and would love to take these used items any day of the week. Or young adults trying to start off life in a new town, city, college or military base and may not have money either. I myself and some of my friends have been and or currently are in this situation and have used the local curbalert Facebook pages. They  have helped us and others with adding furniture to our new homes, toys for our kids, lawn equipment, wood for summertime projects and much more. It’s a pretty active page/concept up where we live and I have found much more pages like it all around the United Sates, Military bases exceptionally. So here’s the Difference between the local pages and my app idea.

How:

It takes the extra steps out of current ways the Facebook pages work, so instead of having to ask to be on the local page via page owners and then posting your address on the post to let people know that you have stuff you’d like to give away, our app would be as simple as you just create an account (no waiting to be approved) using either an email or Facebook email, click post ad, take some pictures, choose spot on map of your items, and there you go, done!! Also No need to communicate with people as you just leave what you have to give away on the curb kind of like a free yard sale. They use the location pin on the map and come pick it up. Curb Ads can be giving an set time on how long they will stay up for and the max time would be 24 hrs. Also the Curb ads will be giving an (optional) button to confirm pickup that can be verified up to 3 times before deleted automatically. One more addition to the app would be to set notifications on certain or all Curb ads that pop up within a specified distance from your location so you can always be on the look out. There will be plenty of room for more options and additions in the future development of the app and we would be happy to hear from anyone on things we should include, add and create for CurbAlert.

COST/Website Design :

I have have been doing research on the cost to make the app similar to my idea and got some estimates on how much the App will cost to make. App cost can range anywhere between 10k – 200K which is insane considering how cheap the website was and I made on my own but I guess a lot goes into making an Apps so anything helps! But being a decently simple App design and not having much complexity like other Apps, The estimates I got to make the app via ios and android were around 40k to 70K so i’ll be placing the Fund Goal at 50K. And feel free to let us know of a company that could help us develop the app for less!!

I do have a beta website currently and I’ll put the website Url here. And also some pictures below of the website both desktop and IOS views. The IOS phone view is still beta but more of what I’d like the App to look like but of course more streamline and aesthetic.

Url for the Beta Website :   https://www.curbalert.org/

Conclusion:

Quick, easy, simple and anyone around the US will be able to do this. Help families out, give away things you don’t need, Cut down on trash going to landfills, could even make it a family event going around and finding cool things! That’s what we do on our Sunday evenings. So In conclusion, by donating/raising funds and supporting us in creating this App, Spreading the word about us and we can create a Great Way to help out People and the environment around the country and who knows, the next thing you find on the side of the curb could be treasure!!
